WHO WE ARE

AIICO Capital Limited (“AIICO Capital” or the “Company”) is a leading secure investments management firm in Nigeria, with over 12,500 institutional and retail clients, spread across several industries.

The Company is a multi-asset manager, duly licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) to provide portfolio and fund management services.

Over the last couple of years, AIICO Capital’s assets under management has grown from N20billion in January 2013 to over N100billion as at 31 March 2019, and has delivered returns to clients significantly in excess of portfolio benchmarks over the period.

These returns have been generated investing primarily in risk-free instruments — Treasury bills and Federal Government Bonds.

Our broad investment approach is an active process, based on fundamentals, premised on the following key elements:

AIICO Capital Limited was established in January 2013 as a fund/portfolio management firm in Nigeria, to manage AIICO Insurance Plc’s ca. N20billion assets and to provide investment management services to third-party clients.

Prior to its establishment as a separate entity, AIICO Capital was the investment Unit of AIICO Insurance Plc. As a unit, it established a track record by profitably managing AIICO Insurance Plc’s funds from 1963.

Chief (Dr.) Oladele Fajemirokun (Chairman)

Chief Dr Oladele Fajemirokun is the Chairman of AIICO Capital Limited. He brings to the Board over 40 years of entrepreneurship and business leadership in Nigerian and multinational businesses. He is the Chairman of and Director of several successful companies in Nigeria, including Johnson Wax Nigeria Plc, Xerox HS (Nigeria) Limited, Kings Guards Limited, Logic Sciences, and a Director of AIICO Pension Managers Limited. He has a Doctorate degree in Business Administration from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and a First Degree in Economics from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University).

 

 

Mr. Lanre Fabunmi (Managing Director/CEO)

Lanre has over 15 years experience – 10 years of which have been as Chief Executive Officer of financial services firms. His experience spans Investment Banking, Asset Management, Consulting, and Audit. Lanre is currently MD/CEO of AIICO Capital Limited – the 4th largest non-pension asset management firm Nigeria, with AUM of over N67billion, for over 800 institutional and retail clients, spread across several industries. Lanre also founded and was MD/CEO of Tricorn Capital – an independent investment banking boutique, and over the 8 year period of his leadership, executed transactions of over US$400million.

Lanre is the Vice Chairman of the Regulation Consolidation Sub Committee of the Nigerian Debt Capital Market Development Project – set up by FMDQ, SEC, in collaboration with the IFC – to transform the Nigerian Debt Capital Markets into a world-class, properly functioning debt capital market in line with the Federal Government’s Vision 20 2020, and the ultimate investment destination in Africa. Before founding Tricorn Capital, Lanre worked in ARM Investment Managers as a Senior Analyst in Investment Banking and Private Equity – where he executed several landmark transactions in infrastructure and private equity. Lanre also worked in KPMG Professional Services as a Senior Consultant leading risk assessments and audits for several multinational and multilateral organisations. Lanre is also a Director of Food Concepts plc.

 

 

Mr Buki Oluwadiya (Non-executive Director)

Mr Bukola Oluwadiya is a Non-Executive Director of AIICO Capital Limited. He has over 35 years well-rounded experience in both the banking/financial services and the oil & gas sectors respectively. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of AIICO Insurance plc and Chairman of the Board of Directors of AIICO Multishield Limited. He is the Founder and immediate past Managing Director/CEO of Magnartis Finance & Investment Limited, sits on the Board as Chairman of Matrix Petrochem Limited, Worldwide Marine & Inspection Services Limited, and AIICO Pension Managers Limited.

 

 

Mr. Edwin F. Igbiti (Non-executive Director)

Mr. Edwin Igbiti is a Non Executive Director of AIICO Insurance plc. He is currently the Managing Director/CEO of AIICO Insurance Plc. He is also a Non-Executive Director of AIICO Pension Managers Limited. Prior to joining AIICO Insurance, he had served and gained vast experience in Insurance from Phoenix Insurance Company, where he worked for several years. He is a seasoned professional with an inestimable depth and wealth of technical experience that is acknowledged across the industry. He has managed relationships between the company and several international partners and affiliates and is a solution proffering, team-spirited leader with excellent inter-personal skills.

Mr. Igbiti holds an MBA from the University of Ado-Ekiti and an Advanced Diploma in Management from the University of Lagos. He is a Certified Insurance practitioner with the Chartered Insurance Institute of London and a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria. Aside from being professionally affiliated to the Nigerian Institute of Management, Chartered (NIMC), he is also a certified Business Continuity Systems Lead Auditor from the British Institute, UK and an alumnus of the Howard University Business School, U.S.A. He currently seats on the Governing Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).

 

 

Mr. Sonnie Ayere (Non-executive Director)

Mr. Sonnie Ayere is a Non-executive Director of AIICO Capital Limited. He is also a Non Executive Director of AIICO Insurance plc, where he is the Chairman of the Board Finance and General Purpose Committee, and also the Chairman of the Board Investment and Enterprise Risk Management Committee. He brings to the Board over 20 years of in-depth corporate and structured finance, corporate banking and asset management experience working with the following institutions in London – HSBC London, NatWest Bank, The Sumitomo Mitsui Bank, Bank of Montreal – Nesbitt Burns; the International Finance Corporation (The World Bank Group) based in Washington D.C. and Johannesburg, South Africa and finally the UBA Group.

He assumed the role of Structured Finance Specialist for Sub-Saharan Africa in July 2002, where he was responsible for developing structured finance and securitisation transactions in addition to developing debt capital markets and instruments for the bank. He pioneered IFC’s interest in developing the Nigerian bond market and was principal adviser to the Nigerian Debt Management Office on the development of the market. He later joined UBA Group as the pioneer Managing Director/CEO of UBA Global Markets, the investment banking arm of the group in August, 2005. After 4years at the helm of the investment banking arm of UBA Plc, he founded Dunn Loren Merrifield in June 2009. Mr. Ayere holds an MA (Hons.) in Financial Economics from the University of Dundee, Scotland in June 1993. He is an Alumni of Cass Business School London (MBA) – July 1996 and London Business School (June 1996). Sonnie is also FSA registered. He was recently conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Science (DSc.) from the European-American University in July 2009. He was appointed as a Non-executive Director on 28 November 2012.

 

 

Ms. Kike Fajemirokun (Non-executive Director)

Kike is an experienced Human Resources professional in the Oil & Gas Industry with over 8 years of human resources and administration management experience. Her experience includes talent management, organizational development, learning and development, performance management, policy design and implementation, reward management, compliance, corporate and social responsibility amongst other areas.
Kike holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Wake Forest University, a Certificate in Human Resources Management from Cornell University, a Master’s in Business Administration from Lancaster University and a Graduate Diploma in Law from BPP Law School, UK. She also sits on the Board of two reputable organizations and currently works as the Head of Human Resources & Admin at LEKOIL Limited.
