AIICO BALANCED FUND NEWSLETTER – SEPTEMBER 2026

OVERVIEW

AIICO Balanced Fund is an open-ended mutual fund, investing in Fixed income instruments, Money market instruments and both Quoted and Unquoted equities.

INVESTMENT OBJECTIVE

The investment objective of the Fund is to create medium to long term capital growth as well as yearly income streams from declared dividends for unit holders. The fund also provides investors with the opportunity diversify their investments into products that would hitherto have been more difficult to invest in.

FUND PERFORMANCE

The AIICO balanced fund closed the month of September ’26 with a YTD return of 26.32%,

Nigeria’s reclassification to the FTSE Russell Frontier Market Index and the CBN’s 350bps rate cut, which reduced the MPR to 23.0%, sustained investor confidence in September. The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) gained 2.87% to close at 251,211.67 points, while market capitalisation briefly surpassed ₦164 trillion before settling at ₦163.10 trillion by month-end following profit-taking in banking and insurance stocks.

In the fixed-income market, the 364-day NTB stop rate fell 73bps to 15.89%, with the auction oversubscribed by 10.2 times and the one-year bill attracting about 97% of subscriptions. Meanwhile, lower bond auction rates and the MPR cut spurred a rally in FGN Bonds, pushing the average benchmark yield down 91bps to 15.80%, while the 10-year yield declined 110bps to 16.01%. However, shorter-term bonds weakened slightly at month-end, with the 3-year yield rising 50bps to 16.10%.
