FINANCIAL MARKETS TODAY – 27 July 2026

System Liquidity

Banking system liquidity improved significantly to a ₦2.24 trillion surplus, supported by ₦1.03 trillion in OMO maturities, although average funding cost edged up 10bps to 22.90% ahead of the NTB auction.

FGN Bonds

The FGN bond market remained bullish as strong demand across short- and mid-tenor maturities pushed the average benchmark yield down by 12bps to 17.06%.

Eurobonds

Nigerian Eurobonds extended their gains, with improved investor sentiment and stronger macroeconomic conditions driving the average benchmark yield lower to 7.01%

Nigerian Equities

The NGX All-Share Index declined by 5bps on profit-taking, although trading activity strengthened significantly with value traded rising 73.60% to ₦57.20 billion

Foreign Exchange

The naira weakened marginally by 15bps to ₦1,363.70/US$ at the NAFEM window, while external reserves eased slightly to US$52.02 billion.

Commodities

Oil prices retreated on easing geopolitical tensions, while gold advanced on expectations of a less aggressive Federal Reserve policy stance.
